CollegeJob SummaryUnder the guidance of the Assistant Dean of
Students/Associate Director of Curriculum and Assessment, the
Assistant Director of Academic Support Services oversees
initiatives related to identifying and meeting the academic support
needs of students in the College. The Assistant Director of
Academic Support Services plays an instrumental role in positioning
CASSO as a trusted partner for students, faculty, and staff in the
College, relaying timely and accurate information to the
appropriate parties so they can succeed in their respective
roles.Responsibilities
- Oversees the planning, delivery, and assessment of
course-specific tutoring services for general education
coursework.
- Recruits, trains, and supervises highly qualified second-,
third-, and fourth-year student employees in compliance with
university policies.
- Designs and publishes quarterly tutoring schedules, ensuring
appropriate staffing and resources to meet student demand.
- Tracks student engagement and responds effectively to feedback
from students and tutors as it changes over time.
- Collaborates effectively with faculty and staff to support
students in meeting course learning outcomes in a rigorous learning
environment.
- Provides customized academic coaching to students on a variety
of college level skills, both curriculum-specific and
overarching.
- Facilitates small group and one-on-one sessions designed to
meet students where they are in their development and assists them
in progressing toward degree completion.
- Receives and provides referrals between campus partners,
considering each student's unique needs. Through this work,
demonstrates an institutional commitment to forwarding a culture of
growth mindset, addressing structural equity gaps in education, and
implementing the tools necessary to embrace the spectrum of student
learning differences present on campus.
- Supervises a limited number of staff focused on academic
support services, as well as assists in the hiring, training,
day-to-day support, and professional development of other CASSO
staff.
- Represents the office on committees, at meetings, and during
events as needed. Assists in the overall successful operations of
the department.
- Designs, implements and maintains student academic and
administrative policies. Translates specialized knowledge of
academic functions to complicated advising matters. Has a deep
understanding of the activities of Study Abroad/ International
Programs and functions for the University's graduate and
undergraduate programs.
- Acts as a main point of contact and recommends process
improvements for other University Schools and Divisions'
joint-degree programs.
- Has a deep understanding related to the development of
programming for non-academic matters, such as health and wellness
and curricular programming. Designs and produces material for the
handbook and other academically-related publications.
- Performs other related work as needed.Minimum
QualificationsEducation:Minimum requirements include a college or
university degree in related field.Work Experience:Minimum
requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7
years of work experience in a related job discipline.Preferred
QualificationsEducation:
- Master's degree in a related field.Experience:
- 5-7 years of experience in higher education, with emphasis on
student-facing responsibilities and academic support.
- Supervising staff in an academic setting.Technical Skills or
Knowledge:
- Proficiency collecting and interpreting data on a frequent
basis, while troubleshooting and recalibrating as needed to uphold
data integrity.
- Self-starter disposition, with the capacity to navigate
available resources and discern when to consult others.
- Proficiency utilizing a variety of office resources, such as
Microsoft Office, Adobe, Box, Google Drive, and Workday.
- Working knowledge of a variety of technological platforms
utilized in higher education, including, but not limited to,
academic/student information systems and learning management
systems.
- Thorough understanding of student confidentiality under FERPA
guidelines and overall familiarity with risk assessment
practices.Preferred Competencies

editing/proofreading.
